Self-Care Systems for Stressed Leaders

Thursday, April 11, 4:00-5:30 P.M. ET

In this highly engaging and interactive virtual workshop, I lead participants through three self-care systems that are simple, data-driven and highly effective – and not your classic recommendations you’ve seen everywhere. Self-care looks different for everyone, and these systems are customizable to each participant’s unique situation and needs and can be combined or mixed-and-matched for the perfect personal fit. This workshop facilitates the time and space for participants to consider what they need—with advice, help and perspective from a seasoned expert (me!) on this topic–so that participants are able to implement the strategies as soon as they finish the workshop, helping ensure that they can lead for the long haul.

Whether you’ve been Uber Eats-ing your lunch salad every day (when really you know you’d love a solid meal prep routine) or scrolling through those group chat memes (when you can’t actually remember the last time you’ve seen your friends face-to-face)... it’s that time of year where you may be quite stretched, and not exactly living your best life.

And even though you might be beating yourself up on some level for not “having it all together,” the fact is, life happens. You may have even been doing quite well on the self-care front, that is until someone quit with no notice… or your mom got sick… or your basement flooded and the house suddenly needs major work. That glass (or two or three) of wine at night or the time scrolling can help remove the sting a little, but at the end of the day it’s a bandaid covering an ouchie that continues to ooze.

We’re anti-ouchie here–which is why I’m so excited for this workshop, Self-Care Systems for Stressed Leaders. These are systems that move with you as life happens (because one thing is for sure, life WILL happen). I’m teaching three systems that are totally customizable to your needs: taking your individual time, energy, resources, life sitch, and personal value set into account.

And let’s be clear: we are not talking about BS self-care practices that may feel–or be–impossible for you (take a day at the spa… ha! Wake up at 4:30 a.m. to work out? Boy, bye–I need my sleep.) When I say self-care, I mean: the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.

This is data driven, highly effective work I have been practicing myself and have coached hundreds of others to successfully implement over the last 20+ years: it’s the first time I’m offering this in a public workshop format and I can’t wait. It doesn’t matter what your job title is or what leading looks like to you–stress comes at everyone in all the ways and these strategies work, for real, for all the peoples.

Look, I’ve ridden the roller coaster of life and leadership without a seatbelt–whether those were the exciting changes (being promoted! big responsibilities! having twins the second year of the school I started!) to the terrible ones (my divorce…big turnover at my school… my children’s father passing away) and through it all these are the systems I used to make it through, white-knuckled: on a daily or weekly basis initially, then thinking monthly or yearly.

I’ve been leading and coaching others for over 25 years: I’ve seen too many great friends and colleagues leave mission driven work–and I know that this will continue to happen if they don’t feel this work is sustainable for the long haul. I’m fired up about combating burnout so that our schools and nonprofits are filled with energized, engaged workers.

“I have found Beth’s advice and thought partnership to be pragmatic, compassionate and grounded in realistic expectations.”

— School Staff Member

“After working with Beth, I actually enjoy my job.”

— Principal of a K-8 School

“Beth has a wealth of experience with the varied facets of school, which makes working with her immensely rewarding and thought provoking - whether discussing school management, leading change, improving student outcomes or managing parental expectations.”

— School Leader

“Before I started working with Beth, I was leading as others thought I should: there were things that were really distressing to me, they were deflating or even discouraging because I wasn't leading the way I wanted to lead and honestly, I was restraining myself. That wasn't great for our school or great for my own well being. The way in which I function now aligns with who I genuinely am thanks to the work Beth and I have done together.”

With this workshop, leaders will be able to…

  • reflect on and evaluate the current state of where they are now in their leader journey: what is working, what is not working yet and what areas might be helpful to focus on so that they can continue to lead for the long haul.

  • articulate what they can do that will help them to be the best leader they can be and analyze what is feasible daily, weekly, monthly and/or annually.

  • strategize and create their self-care plan for this season of the year and for this season of their life.

  • predict likely challenges to this plan and determine several responses they can use when these challenges arise.

You will 100% walk away with concrete, actionable things you can do starting ASAP without any additional work beyond the workshop.

FAQs

  • This workshop will take place on Thursday, April 11 from 4:00-5:30 PM ET on a live, virtual Zoom. Beth will hang out afterwards for a few minutes of questions and discussion as well.

  • Participants will learn three separate self-care systems to use in their daily lives, receive lifetime access to the recording, a workbook, and a suite of resources to use to immediately implement the systems taught. You will 100% walk away with concrete, actionable things you can do starting ASAP without any additional work.

  • Unfortunately, we are just offering this live one time this spring. There will be a recording, so you can still experience it in that way should you purchase. If you’re supervising detention/driving somewhere or able to listen, that can work, even if it’s not ideal (hmm, sounds like life…). There’s an option for a 1:1 follow-up session as well if you want individual time to digest what you’ve learned. Otherwise… stay tuned for when it may be offered next (likely at least in the fall, possibly later).

  • Nope, nothing is required, though we do recommend you use this opportunity as a gift to yourself — set up in a space you can focus during the workshop, close other tabs, put your phone away, and fully engage since this will be highly interactive. To participate, you’ll just need to be ready to have your Zoom open (with the chat!) and you can either print your workshop or use it digitally. If you have to drive carpool/cover for someone or do something else, listening live you will still get some good gems out of it, although not the same obvi as when you are able to fully focus.

  • My experience in both coaching educators and leaders and in navigating trauma in my personal life is extensive. There is very little I haven’t encountered (universe, this is not a test…); I have coached individuals to navigate all the storms and come out a happier, healthier person. I don’t know your life situation but I have worked with literally hundreds of people directly so I am confident that there’s been something similar, and also very sure that these systems will work–because they have, hundreds of times. The workshop gives ideas, facilitates reflection and gives you the time and space to think about what you most need.
